March 13, 2015  Physics and Astronomy Departmental Demo Show.  The show will be held in LR1 VAN at 7:00 pm. Demos include: Light traveling in a vacuum, Sound not traveling in a vacuum, Human waves with light sticks, Shock waves, Light pressure/shock waves, Fiber optics communicator, and several different lighting technologies.  Movie 1, Movie 2.  A Thank You Letter

March 19, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space and Hawk-Eyes on Science present the Physics and Astronomy Science Show at Central Lee Elementary school in Donnellson, IA. Dave Bibby coordinating.

March 24, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space present at North Tama Elementary for their STEM Day. Presentations included information on Mars and the construction of rover models.   Dominic Ludovici and Erin Maier coordinating. Summary

March 26, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space and Craig Kletzing present at the UI Explorers Seminar: "Hawkeyes in Space: Space Research at the University of Iowa."  7:00 pm in MNH 3rd Floor, Hageboeck Hall of Birds.  Sarah Horgen coordinating. 

March 28, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space and Hawk-Eyes on Science present a "Wings" Class titled "Detectors and Robots". We will we soldering two robots during the 9-12 pm session to see what actual detectors look like and what is needed to operate them.  The last 1/2 to 1/3 of the class time will be spent discussing the sensors on the Van Allen Probes and the Mars Rovers, what kind they are,  and the problems/protection that the sensors on those exploratory missions must overcome or have.  For more info, see the Upcoming Events on the Belin-Blank Center Website.

March 31, 2015   Hawkeye Caucus for STEM Day at the State Capital.  All day starting at 8:30 am. 

April 1, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space University of Iowa 2015 Mobile Museum Exhibit goes on the road.  Exhibit features Dr. James A. Van Allen and the University of Iowa involvement in space exploration to date with special emphasis on the Van Allen Probes mission.  Demonstrations include: Magnet and copper plate, bending electron beam with magnetic field, jumping rings, radiation detector and Fiestaware plate. April 10, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space.  George Hospodarsky presents at the Alburnett Elementary Career Enrichment Day.  Two presentations to their 5th graders.  Topics covered included being a space physicist, Professor Van Allen, Space Physics at the University of Iowa, Van Allen Probes and other U of Iowa spacecraft. 

April 16, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present for STEAM Educational Day at Iowa Valley Community College over two morning sessions from 8-11 am.  Michelle Taylor-Frazier coordinating. 

April 17, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present during a Spring Campus Visit for CDE to the West Liberty 4th graders over two sessions: 9:30-10:20am and 10:30-11:20am.  Katie Miller coordinating. 1st Session, 2nd Session

April 17, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the Junior Academy session for the Iowa Academy of Sciences.  Presentation held in the Nebraska Room of the IMU from 1:15 - 2:15 pm.

June 11, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present to the University of Iowa's Siblings Orientation Program for middle and high school students.  A session of 30 minutes was held in 70VAN. 

June 16, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present for Iowa City's Park and Rec Day Camps with the theme of "Beakers, Bubbles, and Big Explosions".  Camp kids include 60-70 kids in K-6 grades.  Held in the CWRC. 

June 23, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present to the University of Iowa's Siblings Orientation Program for middle and high school students.  A session of 30 minutes was held in 70VAN.

June 30, 2015 - July 30, 2015   Instructional Resources provide demonstrations for Jacob Lamb's Upward Bound Course.  Demos included Astronomy and Light & Waves for 2 days a week for 5 weeks.

July 17, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present to the University of Iowa's Siblings Orientation Program for middle and high school students.  A session of 30 minutes was held in 70VAN. 

July 21, 2015   Hawk-Eyes on Science present to Iowa First Nations for Native American High School students and National Scholars Institute groups.  3 hour simulation was given in LR70, VAN. 

August 13 - August 23, 2015   Hawk-Eyes in Space University of Iowa 2015 Mobile Museum Exhibit goes on the road to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA.  The Mobile Museum has a display on space physics at the University of Iowa and George Hospodarsky volunteered to talk about Van Allen Probes, Cassini, Juno, Mars Express, Voyager, Explorer 1, Galileo, Cluster, etc.  Over 300 people visited the museum during his talk. 

September 4 - September, 25 2015  Robert Mutel teaches the Senior College on Four Great Unsolved Problems in Astrophysics.  Enrollment was 85 students, and was taught over 4 sessions each of 2 hours. See the Senior College Website for more detail. 

September 08, 2015 Michael Whetstone borrows instructional resources to demonstrate Lenz's law in the college of education.  

September 14, 2015 Hawk-Eyes on Science present to middle school students from Edison Jr. High in Rock Island, IL at 2:45 pm.  Katie Harfst coordinating. 

September 17, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the GEAR UP visits for middle schoolers from Des Moines.  Approximately 50 students in the audience, presentation lasted from 10 am - 11:50 am.  Dominique Brooks coordinating.  

September 24, 2015  Cafe Scientifique Cornelia Lang presents New Horizons: To Pluto and Beyond at the  
Main Library, 6:00 to 7:00 pm. 

September 27, 2015 Department of Physics and Astronomy hosts a public viewing event for the Lunar Eclipse from 7-10 pm.  The event had telescope tours in the dome, small telescopes on the roof, refreshments and student made demonstrations. Check of their Facebook for more information.

October 3, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space present for the You@UI for recruiting and outreach at 10:00 - 10:30 am in LR2. 

October 6, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the GEAR UP visits for middle schoolers from Des Moines.  Approximately 50 students in the audience, presentation lasted from 10 am - 11:50 am.  Dominique Brooks coordinating.  

October 7, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space present for 4-H and Big Brothers Big Sisters Science Night at the Johnson Country Extension office from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

October 8, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the GEAR UP visits for middle school students from Des Moines.  Approximately 50 students in the audience, presentation lasted from 10 am - 11:50 am.  Dominique Brooks coordinating.  

October 9, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space provide equipment for the 5th graders at Horace Mann Elementary School in Rm 666 Van. Cornelia Lang coordinating. This visit also included a tour of the Van Allen Observatory (VAO). 

October 15, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the Center for Diversity and Enrichment Pen Pal Campus Visit.  Two sessions will be held in 309 VAN from 9:30 - 10:20 and 10:30 - 11:20 for the 4th graders of West Liberty.  

October 19, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space and George Hospodarsky present for the 6th graders of North Tama School.  George gave a tour of the department and the Radio and Plasma Wave Groups.  Talks included topics about Professor Van Allen, Cassini, Juno, Van Allen Probes, and more. 

October 19-21, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space with Allison Costa and Staci Tiedeken give talks to the fifth graders at Kirkwood Elementary about the solar system, asteroids, and the what if's and why's.  Borrowed the scale model solar system demo from instructional resources.  Amy Nugent coordinating.  Thank You Note

October 29, 2015  Ugar Akgun borrows instructional resources for Coe Playground of Science.  Demonstrations included Tesla Coil & Gas gilled Tubes, Colored Shadow Apparatus, Colored LED Lights with Fluorescent Material, and 3 color Twirling Balls.  Over 1200 people in attendance.

October 30, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present at the University of Iowa's Creepy Campus Crawl from 5:30-8:30.  Joe Sink and SPS Members coordinating. Volunteers include Ross McCurdy, Joe Sink, Jason Kooi, Vanessa Kooi, and Staci Tiedeken. See the Filer

November 1, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science provide equipment for the Kids Science Day Camp.  Equipment borrowed was the magnetic levitation demo.  Daniel Davies coordinating.  

November 9, 2015  UI researcher, James Wetzel, built a mini replica of the world’s most advanced particle detector, the Large Hadron Collider. About 70 of Wetzel's replicas were designed and printed by 3D printers in the UI’s physics and astronomy department. One appeared in a recent episode of The Big Bang Theory.   Picture 1, Picture 2

November 11, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science & Hawk-Eyes in Space and George Hospodarsky presents for Honors First-Year Seminar: Iowa and the Space Race: The Legacy of James Allen. Included topics were  Professor Van Allen, the Radio and Plasma Wave Groups, Cassini, Juno, Van Allen Probes, and more. 

November 12, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science provide spectrum tubes and spectrum glasses for the state legislators' visit to the Van Allen Observatory.  

November 24, 2015  Anthony Moeller gives an outreach program at Corse Elementary in Burlington, IA.  Instructional resources provided were solar cell, spectrum tubes/glasses, music with wire coils, and many more demos.  Thank You Letters

December 3, 2015  Hawk-Eyes on Science present for the Noche de Ciencias hosted by the Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers (SHPE).  STEM Activiates and Workshops from 6:30-9:30 pm in the Seaman's Center.  Paul Ruales coordinating.
